If you’ve been on the internet for the past few weeks, you might have heard of the exciting news that Apple’s new “spatial computing” device is finally releasing to the public.
Going for sale from $3499 to $3899 US Dollars, Apple’s new “spatial computing” device called the Apple Vision Pro (for reading purposes, we will be referring to just as “Vision Pro”) is their latest and most ambitious product reveal in years.
According to TechCrunch, Vision Pro, with its “ski goggle-like design” features a ton of technology inside, including things like a new operation system called visionOS. Moreover, according to the same article from TechCrunch, it is said that early owners of the Vision Pro can probably expect a lack of “natively developed apps” for the Vision Pro, as many developers are still working on their applications.

According to Mike Andronico from CNN Underscored, Apple made something as complex as a virtual reality experience, “as intuitive as swiping around your iPhone.” And, according to CNN Business, Vision Pro, which is Apple’s first new product line in seven years, has made waves across Apple stores after its release on Friday (2/2/24). Moreover, according to the same article, Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, called the Vision Pro, “the most advanced consumer electronics device ever created.”
So, how does it work? Well, according to Apple themselves, they use a “micro-OLED display” that displays over 23 million pixels for each eye. This helps create extremely realistic and in-depth images that “come to life.”
Furthermore, Apple also uses “audio pods” directed at your ears to deliver spatial audio never seen before. Vision Pro uses “audio ray tracing” to analyze the acoustic properties of your room, and uses that data to match the audio being put out by the audio pods.

Moreover, Apple’s Vision Pro also uses an array of cameras and sensors that all work together to bring a true virtual reality experience to the user. According to bitnamic CONNECT, Vision Pro features “[t]wo main cameras, four downward-facing cameras, two infrared cameras, two side cameras, two TrueDepth cameras, and five sensors [that] are all integrated into the glass lens.”
Lastly, Vision Pro also uses a dual-chip system that is needed to run the processes for the device. According to Apple, their M2 chip is used to run visionOS, and their brand-new R1 chip is used to “process input from the cameras, sensors, and microphones” in less than a second.
Overall it seems like, Apple's Vision Pro, priced from $3499 to $3899, introduces cutting-edge spatial computing to the general public. With its sleek design, advanced display, spatial audio, and robust camera-sensor setup, it promises an immersive virtual reality experience which we can only hope that it lives up to in the upcoming weeks.
